Shame on me

This morning I was delighted to see that Danielle Bregoli (the "Cash me outside" girl I saw twice on Dr. Phil) has pled guilty to grand theft and other lesser charges. NBC also reports that Bregoli could face additional charges for a battery incident earlier this year after she and her friends were caught on surveillance video attacking a group of women outside of Kavasutra Kava Bar.

The first time I saw on her on Dr. Phil I thought she was an out-of-control teen but I had some hope that Dr. Phil and the ranch he sent her to would provide the help she needed. The follow-up visit on Dr. Phil showed in spite of therapy and additional time to grow up she still believes society's rules don't apply to her and that she is immune to negative consequences. Hopefully the the court will disabuse of her of this notion before her actions get someone killed and she ruins her chances for a life outside of prison. (Do I think she needs to be incarcerated now, yes I do. Do I think she deserves a life sentence for what she's done thus far? No, not at all.)

In my opinion she's immature, greedy, and selfish. I also think she's going to have a hard time finding a legal way to afford the lifestyle she wants.

We've belonged to Costco for many years and I generally leaf through their magazine when it arrives. I did so with the July issue and ran into this article, Lessons from horses. It's one page, worth reading, and when I got to the part on the Alpha Mare, I thought "No wonder I don't trust Trump, he has none of these things."

My niece and sister came to visit so I haven't watched any Starsky & Hutch for several days and I'm missing it. But my sister has been on a Due South binge and she wanted to introduce me to Ray Kowalski. I missed out on the Ray Wars entirely because I only ever saw the first two seasons (as did the rest of the family when Due South was first broadcast); my sister says she'd gone in with extreme scepticism, not expecting anyone to be able to replace Ray Vecchio, but new Ray has won her over. So with her endorsement I am willing to like this new Ray.

I think they did well introducing him by making Fraser even more puzzled than the audience. I don't know if having RayK take a bullet for Fraser the first day they met was a clever short-cut to making them believably partners, or just hilarious. I think Fraser is the best possible person to have his partner unexpectedly switched on him because he can see the good in anyone.

From screenshots I've seen wafting around the internet I had the idea RayK was appealing to the fanbase because he had blond spiky hair and was more attractive than RayV. I am not really seeing it. He looks like someone who might have been cute ten years ago and is now less so; he's also giving me trouble every time he changes clothes because until I get to know his face better he's very nondescript. I have to guess from cues like the way the camera follows him or if Fraser stands next to him or someone calls him by name. In s3e03 the guest star of the week was a man of similar age and build with light-coloured hair and I had no idea what was going on for the first half of it - in fact the guest star had a more distinctive face and I was able to spot RayK more easily by figuring that he was the one who wasn't that guy.

(I am choosing an appropriate episode of Starsky & Hutch to introduce my sister to in return.)

Here is my holiday with all the emotional and digestive incompetence edited out:

I really love my nieces, and it was good to spend a whole week with them. We built a lot of sandcastles and met a lot of donkeys.

I have 'do you want to build a snowman sandcastle' stuck in my head. I know two lines. I am dying.

(I watched Frozen. I physically cannot believe the sexy dress transformation that is supposedly Elsa's empowering moment of not caring what other people think. Disney can go fuck itself.)

I have a couple of days off work and a to do list of a million things. All I am actually going to do is read my book. I didn't take it on holiday because I knew I wouldn't be allowed to properly enjoy it. But now I'm home and I've missed it, and it's just so good, it's so much better than other books, I love it so much. Fitz is currently witbonding with a horse despite trying to explain that he definitely doesn't want that, and the horse is just like 'well it's no good not wanting me, we're brilliant together, I'm obviously your soulmate'. I have so many emotions. Fitz refused to let her know his name, so she's just read it from him, and is calling him Changer, which is what Nighteyes calls him, because it means Catalyst, which is what the Fool calls him, and which therefore is how he actually identifies. The Fool has bonded with a crow (<3) and keeps referring to Bee as 'our daughter' (<3333333333). Nighteyes lives in her head and calls her cub. I LOVE THEM ALL SO MUCH, they are the best fathers ever. (Or they would be, but one of them is dead, one of them is half dead, and one of them is Fitz.) The Fool asked him if Bee looked like him (the Fool) and Fitz immediately went 'no', and then started thinking about all the ways Bee looks exactly like the Fool and the Fool just laughed gently at him. I honestly don't understand the point of books that aren't sprawling fantasy novels about True Love. Fitz unravelled for a while and was just sending his emotions out to the whole castle, and now everybody has to politely pretend they don't know what a terrible mess he is. He let Kettricken feel how much Nighteyes had loved her and that was wonderful.

Day Eight: A song that makes you happy

I think my numbering has fallen awrong because I missed a question vaguely. But worse things.

All the songs I've been posting make me happy, I like songs that make me happy. I have a massive list of songs I could post for this one, but I ended up torn between Hey Baby and Hey Mickey, which are both so beautiful I could cry on them. I'm choosing Hey Baby only because I think I already covered the TRUE PURE HAPPINESS of the eighties in Green Door.

Ugh. It's such a stunning song, which is beautiful in its own right, and also beautiful in that it reminds me of patrick swayze. I know that nobody these days resists putting in the ooh, aah bits. Each to their own and all that, but it takes away everything that is full and lazy about the music, and if you prefer the other version you're basically soulless and you mean nothing to me.
