Flashslash - prompt set 1
Starsky and Hutch.
This didn't do exactly what I wanted it to - 8 minutes isn't very long when it comes down to it is it.. But it's a flavour. Hell, in 8 minutes I don't even know if cops 'graduate' or do something else altogether..
Set 1 map apparition stiff drench
If this was goodbye Hutch was damned if he was going to say it wrong. He’d spent his life in a world of lips that were upper and stiff and this time, this time he would say what he needed to. Oh sure, he wasn’t going to drench the guy in salty tears, weep upon his shoulder and sob his sorrow to the heavens, but he was gonna say what was needed.
He’d walked into the academy mere months ago, his father’s disappointment ringing in his ears, Vanessa’s fury scored, less ethereally, into his flesh. And he’d wondered then; as he saw all around him sallow faced young men, clutching maps, schedules and rulebooks, how long this little rebellion of his would actually last How long before the solitude drove him back to his father’s firm and Vanessa’s open palm?
And then he’d seen him; David Starsky, unknown then, but already recognisable as a man strong and driven, yet with a grin so wide and enthusiasm so engaging. One brief moment of eye contact had been enough for Hutch to know that somehow this man, this apparition was a kindred spirit. How, he didn’t know. Starsky was a dark eyed, curly haired Jew, clearly laden down with baggage Hutch couldn’t hope to understand, his own privilege making him feel gauche and naive, instead of acting as the security blanket it had always been. Yet, despite this, there was connection, a connection that had withstood classroom challenges, sports field competition, and the disdain of Hutch’s family.
And now it was graduation day, and if, as they passed out and collected diplomas and badges, they also said goodbye? Well Hutch was gonna tell this man that he’d saved his life. He’d be open and honest and make sure he was heard.
And if the coming parting broke his heart?
Well, perhaps lips were stiff for a reason after all.
