About six months ago, I did a similar thing. My mobile phone doubles as an alarm clock, and I woke to find that I'd knocked it to the floor during the night and dislodged the battery. I fly out of bed, put the phone back together and FREAK because it's a quarter to*. Have the fastest shower ever, throw food at the cats and am literally walking out the door when the alarm goes off. I'd gotten ready *super early*, not *super late*. So I got a coffee and read my friends list ;-)
As to that thing with the bonds, I don't know the legality wherever you are but it does sound a bit dodgy. If he's treating it as a gift, that may be the end of it - after all there's nothing to stop you giving him a similar gift of 2000 quid at a later stage. Hmm. I'd be checking before I gave it back (and it was damned presumptuous of him not to ask first).
