I believe I can fly

I lay in bed in the early hours of this morning, feeling waves of... strangeness wash over me. Each one came with this bizarre feeling of weightlessness and as wave followed wave, I began to realise that with just a few more I would be able to lift myself off the bed, levitate if you will, to the ceiling.

I was aware of my body and my bones, I could feel myself touching the mattress beneath me, and the sense that this contact was reducing with each mysterious wave. My arms were moving upwards from my body and I was getting closer and closer to being able to rise.

Towards the end, each wave brought with it a burst of heat and arousal, it was so intense, the wierdest sensation ever.

I suddenly felt overwhelmed and scared by it all and I had a choice between continuing or stopping it all and I made myself move and shake off the weightlessness.

Looking at it now, I can only conculde that I *must* have been dreaming, but I wasn't.. I was in bed, I knew how I was laying, I could feel the covers and the pillow and, oh it was just odd.

You lost your chance to fly! Next time fly. That's my vote. I've had weird weight-related sensations in bed before, not actually (to my knowledge) while dreaming but in that sort of mixed sleeping-waking phase - sometimes I feel my head's tilting downwards and things like that. Quite peculiar.

It is true that in hindsight, away from the scary otherworldness of it all, I am wondering what would have happened and slightly regretting my cowardice.

I think this was lucid dreaming. I also think it would have frightened me, just for fear my soul would break loose and I couldn't come back to my body.

I've commented above that in hindsight and in fully awake safety, I've found myself wondering "what if", but it was so intense at the time that my "what if" was less hopeful and more anxiety filled!

Oh, wow!

I've had similar experiences - not the 'fly' part, though. But knowing I'm in bed and still having the sense of dreaming - I've said it's like being caught between the two, in the space between. In this space I've seen a WW1 era nurse standing in the corner of my bedroom, and my cat Penny visited me a few weeks after we put her down. I FELT her. I forced my eyes open the barest slit and SAW her. She walked on me and kissed me like she did and then she was gone.

Goodness, that sounds equally thrilling and a little scary.

Although how lovely to be visited by your beloved cat.
