Today, Mother and I went out today, a bit of a shop, then lunch, then a meander along the beach - with photos!
Beautiful blue sky
L has two beaches, North and South. South is a stretch of golden sand as far as the eye can see, with nary a stone in sight. North is a much more raw beach
The far far end of this turns into dunes, with grasses and a woodland to the cliffs, but we only visited the middle part.
Walking along, the changes were astonishing. When I was little we came here and there was loads of sand (but tons of pebbles and shingle too!). One or two edges of rock occasionally poked above the sand and everyone said it was "the old sea wall". We used to swim from these beaches and all was fine. Now there's been so much erosion, the beach is much 'lower' than it was, and the old wall is exposed in all its dangerous glory. (You can't see it in these pics, but in between the concrete are spurs and spikes of metal, now rusted into jagged edges and spears. Only visible at low tide)
None of this could be seen years ago (although of course, in the cyclical way of beaches, it was all visible and like this when my Dad was a boy).
