Stupid question time:

Is it okay to eat bean sprouts raw (bought a stir fry pack - peppers, cabbage, carrots etc and beansprouts - is it okay to eat the sprouts raw?

I googled and some entries talked about salmonella, others were 'it's fine' - just looking for a general consensus so I can plan my lunch for tomorrow!
