eight and a half hours.
that's how long it took me to get home today. :(
Yesterday I made the trip in 6 hours ten minutes, with a very brief stop for lunch. it was sunny and my little 1 litre car can do almost 90 without even straining. (I didn't try for more, i didn't wanna push him too far!)
I got to the hotel, which was very basic travelodgesque, but more than adequate for a one night 'business' trip. I sat in the sun for an hour and read, I ate. I did my prep for the next day. and all was... adequate is probably the best word here too.
Today I went to the prison. Saw my (extremely creepy guy - anyone seen Joel Gray playing The Doctor in Buffy - The Gift? That's him!)Had the meeting. Left.
My meeting - including checking in through all the high security, the meeting, a separate interview after and all the checking out again - 65 minutes.
Then I commenced the longest journey ever. Only 300 miles (including the 40 mile, erm, detour I took when I missed my exit!) - but the weather was so horrendous in places we were stuck at 40mph - this on the motorway. Could not see the car in front. Very long winded, and stressful. I did stop for probably 50 minutes all told, but even so. long long long.
But I'm proud of myself for getting there and back (I'm not overly fond of driving, ok with familiar routes, but get myself quite wound before long, unknown journeys, but I survived. yay me!
Still, on the whole taxpayers money front.. 564 miles, 2 work days, overnight accomm, and meals, not to mention the wear and tear on my nerves = 65 minutes. hmm.
