Sherlock Holmes...
Listening to the BBC productions recently I was shocked when Watson married a second wife. I was quite indignant and thought they'd taken great liberties - however, greater investigation shows that this is accepted canon in many quarters, and June Watson's book Holmes and Watson*** devotes a chapter to speculation as to the identity of the second spouse.
Really I just wanted to see how obtuse I had been in being completely unaware of this despite reading the books since I was 10years old.
Is it something that everyone else knew, is it a matter of rabid dispute? indifference?
I hope this isn't a boring, overdone question - if it is, feel free to shoot me down, I don't mean to cause trouble, I'm just genuinely suprised by this.
*** - This is the book that has infuriated me many many times as I have persevered with it, and I have minimal respect for anything contained within... Holmes keeps bee, ooh Queen Bee has huge signficance, Holmes hates women... rargh.
