This seems such a pettywhinge but it feels huge and so I'm going to moan about it anyway.

Work. Whenever isn't it.

I cut this 'cos it's a lot of whiniging about a seating plan which is incredibly minor in teh grand scheme of things but is looming large in my stressed little world, but which no one deserves to have to read and is as much about venting and trying not to cry at work as it anything else. )

Mother has taken to responding to any of my moans with "Oh well, you'll just have to cope we come up on the lottery." As a coping strategy this leaves a lotto be desired!

I started watching onnotheydidn't because someone linked to a post I found interestng, I came back fonight to what felt like 3000 entries on my flist, I couldn't make it stop being there so I unjoined. Hindsight made me realise this is exactly what I did about a year ago when I couldn't cope then either!

That last point was obviously completely unrelated to my previous. I think I should go to bed.

Thank you for your comments and support after yesterday's post - I have an update.

One colleague spoke to our boss, who told her the changes were "an opportunity to build new relationships"

one colleague spoke to the big boss who told her "I'd hope youcould be professional about this"

I spoke to the person actually (partially) responsible for the seating plan and explained how it was making us feel and offered an alternative solution. Minor scale only, focussing on moving my work colleague and swapping her out with another who is on 'indefinite maternity leave', I also asked if colleague on her own could possibly be moved up to be near us and offered a couple of suggestions. Also asked if other colleague could at least be swapped out away from the person with whom she has issues.

HE LISTENED.

It helps that we get on well I suppose, and perhaps that I prefaced the discussion with queries about his own job situation (merger means he is in a duplicated role and will have to reapply for his position), but he listened. He acknowledged that it is possible to be professional and still be stressed out about stuff. He saw my plan and saw that it was good! So now P will definitely be moved and will sit near me. I'm still near odd man from L, but will be near P and have a colleague for support. Other P is 70% likely to be moved near us too. A tiny light at the end of the tunnel and it just might not be a train.

Oh, and although the facing onto a blank wall (with I found out today no windows!) is not negotiable, the adjacent door is actually a fire door and not an entrance, so only used in the event of an emergency.

The rst of it is still all looking rubbish. Chap I spoke to estimated that things will "begin to settle by the end of January" (we move beg Nov!).

Have I mentioned the most stupid thing? They're closing us doen to save money. So they're closing down our office. But we still need somewhere for people to report to, so they're going to have a reporting centre. The best location they've found for that is... our office. We're moving to Lowestoft. paying all staff to relocate (except me, cos I live here!) and then they're paying half the GY offenders to travel to Lowestoft for supervision, and then paying us staff to travel to GY to supervise the rest of the clients. And we're using our building...but only downstairs... Theythink they can rent out the upstairs to another company. Good luck finding a commercial prospect that wants to share office space with known criminals wandering in and out downstairs!!!

Hey ho. It's amazing the difference this has made. We're lucky that he listened and our requests were doable though - another colleague today found out where she was allocated and burst into tears and ended up being sent home.

Work.
