Father is secretary to a couple of Naval Associations, (HMS Ganges n particular) and he organised a coach trip to the Chatham Historic Dockyard I went to keep Mum company as opposed to any great interest in ships, but there were museums there etc and it was interesting.

Mind you, it took the coach 5 hours to get there (instead of the expected 3.5!) and rained. All day.And was bloody freezing too! There was an Art exhibition there - the degree show for the UCCA. There was some fabulous stuff there. I could have spent ages mooching around - Mum on the other hand wandered around puttering that she "didn't understand it". Some of it was obscure or extreme - but then a lot f degree shows are. Mum didn't get the concept of some of the work, or why things had holes in them, or were not aesthetically pleasing. She complained that it had 'no use', but when I pointed out that her landscapes and pictures of sheep had no discernible use either she just stated 'That's different'! It made a change though, 'cos it's usually Dad who decries art at exhibitions, so it was novel to have it be Mum for a change!

Oh, I saw Photobucket It was a real one though, as opposed to a portal to other worlds.

On the way home, out of desperation I had to use the on-coach loo - it was tinier than airplane toilets - and I ended up headbutting the door, hard when the bus went over a speedbump! Then emerging at great speed, throwing myself up the steps and making a dramtic entrance back to the coach. So much for keeping a low profile! And then, if that wasn't bad enough...

We were sitting on the back seat - next to the emergency exit, so a row of seats had been taken out. The floor was slippery. The seats were slippery. I didn't have my seatbelt on. The bus braked suddenly. Cue Lola shooting off her seat onto the floor. The bus promptly went round a corner and braked sharply again - cue Lola sliding across said floor in an undignified heap. No-one could help me as they were all too busy crying with laughter. Especially my family. I laughed too, but can't actually use my arm this morning, because I damaged my shoulder somehow!

Poor old Mum got travel sick on the way home, though. :(

Cool! A real police box. Man, I'd love to see one of those.

(My grandfather was in the navy.)

I wanted to go inside, but it (and the police museum it was attached to) were closed, which was disappointing.

My Dad joined the navy at 15 years old, My grandand (Mum's dad) was in the navy for most of his working life (throughout the war).
Tha's my Dad in the icon when he was 2 or 3..

Is it even possible to see a police box anymore and not expect it to be a time machine? I don't think it is.

Oh, I love that you were made of clumsy on the coach. Obviously I'm sad that your arm is hurt, but coaches are EVIL and I don't understand people who handle them with some degree of dignity at all.

I was very good at the walking up and down the aisle bit, even when it was moving. It just appears that I haven't mastered sitting.
