A lifetime ago I started to redo my dining room. This room had been the junk/walk through room for ages, with no dining table, a manky (3rd hand) carpet I was ashamed of that would NEVER come clean, and a load of old rubbish.

It is now shiny, new and complete and, bar the man who fitted the floors, I did it all myself.

odd stuff
This old chest came from my Grandfather. It was lime green when he had it. The clock was a birthday gift from my friend. The mini chest thing was Mum and Dads before I begged it.

odd stuff
This is next to the chest. The table was also from my Grandad's. The curtain has fronds and beads and hides the cupboard door. (the cupboard will kill the next person that opens it, it's that full!)

odd stuff
Follow the wall round to teh chimney breast. My first (and only) wallpapering. Still very proud of myself for doing this - single handed! I may add a mirror to this wall.

odd stuff
This is the other side of teh chimney breast and is right next to teh window, hence the bed photo. The painting came from South Africa. The cupboard is a 1950s kitchen cabinet which I painted. The shelves are a little too dark and need something lighter.

odd stuff
I have a new dining table! I love it. The china is Midwinter Sienna. I have more, this is just a selection. I should use it instead of just displaying it.

odd stuff
The bare wall - with just a radiator and a single piece of 'art'.

odd stuff
The 'Art'. I have to confess that these aren't all my pictures - at least half of them were gathered from the interwebs, but I took some of them.

odd stuff
Just so you can see the floor and the rug

odd stuff
And (a really poorly lit) one from another angle.

Hurrah!

Thank you! I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

It's taken a long time, but I had to wait for the floors, and then find energy and time. But I enjoyed it.

The "whatever colour we're going to call it" is quite pertinent - when I was hunting for pics for the collage I was trying to select the most appropriate search term!

The tiles on the fireplace do work well with it - I never really liked them in themselves - but once the paper went up, it seemed to make them work. Now the flowers are also echoed in the lampshade. Very subtly, but they're there nonetheless.

I have an old oval mirror, butI think you're right, if I could find one with a similar shape to the tles, it would work to pull it together a little more - I better check out the local auction!

Thanks for your detailed comments and opinions - it makes me feel appreciated!
