She moved in a few days ago and I have been cautiously optimistic as there has been no real unpleasant noises or problems. I hadn't seen her to speak to, but was not filled with hatred when I spied her through teh window...

She came and knocked on my door today to ask which bin to put out - and introduced herself and her kid, gave me a brief history as to her circs - separated, kids in house at times, etc. Then explained that she was keen to be considerate and would not be loud or invasive and to knock and speak to her if she is too noisy or does anything annoying. I of course offered her the same assurances and she said she hadn't been sure if I was ever in and she never heard me...

I have cautious optimism of a neighbour I'm gonna like. Yay!

Thougt I'd learnt to read knittng patern charts - turns out I kind of have, but missed out one line, which reversed right and wrong side half way through which means I now need to unpick teh last 10 rows and start over. Still hey ho.

There was a picture of Jensen in a fandom_secrets this week - which I have managed to miss before today - Jensen in a long sleeved black top, with jeans and braces hanging down. UNF. I wannit.

I went to an auction on Thursday and bid on things and won! Vey exciting in a sad way. But I won my first item and sort of didn't realise I'd won, so had to be heavily prompted to give my name... which meant that the auctioneer remembered me, spoke to me and made jokes when I won the other two items I bid for (one was for Dad). I bought a Gargoyle and an old battered chest thing with drawers. Completely bastardised out of other pieces of furniture, but idiosyncratic and, when cleaned up and polished, will be rather nice I think (hope).

Watched the Boy George drama tonight - he is calling it a documentary on his twitter and feels that it was lacking in emotion, but I quite liked it. It must be very strange to watch a dramatisation of your life. I was a big BG/Culture Club fan back in teh day (as well as an oblivious one who had no idea he and Jon were together - I *was* very young) and all these little 'facts' kept coming back to me as I watched. As well as recognising 'photos of him that I had on my wall and so on.

Bed now.

Yay for the new neighbour, she sounds nice.

I've never been to an auction. I think I would be too scared to move in case they thought it was a bid! Is it as scary as it looks on tv?

I've only been to smallish auctions, not the multi megabucks ones you see on tv and they're not scary at all. (Although the very first time I bid I was a little anxious) - The local auctions though are friendly, you don't bid by mistake, at the one this week everyone was chatting on around teh auction, pointing things out and scratching noses without fear! You generally have to make eye contact with teh auctioneer and they double check if there's any doubt.
They're actually rather fun (and teh local auctions are dead cheap - plenty of bargains to be had)

Oh ok, I might put on my list of things to do. Just to say I've been and they're not so bad after all.

I like the sound of your new neighbor. I hope she's as good as she sounds and she sticks around for a good long while.

The picture of Jensen -- URL please?

Yay for winning things at auction. I'm not sure that's something I've ever done except online. The spouse has though, which explains how I once ended up with a living room filled with big and obsolete computer equipment. I don't recall what they were, card readers or something, but each was the size of, say, two full size office chairs. And we had something like eight or a dozen of them.

Yay for Boy George too. So the thing you saw was something about him but that he was not actually in and he was only tweeting about it. Right? How's he doing, can you tell? I lost track after he was released from jail in NY. I was worried about him while he was in as I knew at one point he was a vegetarian (perhaps even vegan) and I was worried there wasn't anything he'd be able to eat. Also who is this Jon person? Someone in the band? Everything I know about Boy George comes from seeing him on Mtv, his episode on The A-Team, and from some book about feng shui I found at the library.

As to being able to read charts: you're a more advanced knitter than I am. I saw the one pattern you posted about with the cables and I've yet to tackle them. They intimidate me.

Neighbour continues probloem free :)

Jensen pic - http://community.livejournal.com/jensenated/67859.html I found this pic (no 44 on teh spam) 'cos it was easierthan going to fandom secrets - and this pic doesn't have a load of guff all over it!

Auctions are fun, as long as you don't buy things you don't need. (Wth the piece of furniture I won last week there was a big crate o other junk attached. I ddn't even realise. I lumbered Dad with that!

Boy George prog was a dramatisation of the early days of BG and the run up to the formation of Culture Club. It is available if you ♥ telly. George seems okay (based on reading his twitter) he has been out of prison in teh UK just over a year now and presents as mainly positive - he eats raw quite often! Jon i Jon Moss, who was the drummer in the band and with whom George had a long and tempestuous relationship. Jon is now married to a woman. He was played by Matt Horne in the film. I used to be a major major fan - still have albums of cuttings and teenage girl fan things - badges, cushions, posters etc. All shoved in a trunk in a cupboard now. I'm intrigued that you found info about him in a book on feng shui!

The chart I am attempting to read was that for teh bag I posted tehother day. The cable part is really easy - looks way way more difficult than it is. A little bit fiddly, but not hard at all. The chart is .. I don't see teh appeal of them, a written pattern is so much more simple to read. I aim to unpick my mistake and start again this evening. Gve cable a go - it's a lovely effect for not a great deal of effort.

Making mistakes is the best way to get better at knitting! Reading stuff is all very well, but the way things get stuck in your head is by doing them, and making a few mistakes along the way. Unpicking is SO annoying and time-consuming, but by the time you're done I'm sure you'll have a much better idea of what you're doing :)
