I was looking for a particular shade of blue wool, and whilst in a shop with my parents, picked up a ball of pink and explained "That's the type of blue I want."

Mum understood immediately, Dad looked at me as if I'd grown another head.

Would you have understood me?

I think I would have...you were talking about the shade of blue you wanted, right? The saturation? I think I get you.

I'd'a been with your dad, calling the local paper to do a story on "My daughter and her two heads". :D

Honestly, it made perfect sense!

Yes, I think that makes obvious sense.

I'm a bit surprised people could not get it. Not in an outraged way, just like you said, I wouldn't have thought for a minute I was saying something odd that people might not understand.

I would. It would have made me giggle slightly, but I do understand what it means.

Until Dad looked at me so oddly I never even comprehended that there could be anything strange about my statement.

*laughs* Of course I would! I myself use a lot that kind of affirmations. Last time I did it, I was with my son and his girlfriend. He told her, with his best serious face: You must understand, when mom says something, is not always what it looks to be. There are layers and layers of meaning in something so apparently simple as I want tacos *g*

Absolutely! And it's all entirely sensible!

I think I would've gotten it ("that's the distance between red/blue and white that I want"), but I would've giggled at both how you said it, and that I understood it. (And, for the record, my mom and I do stuff like that all the time: one of us will say something that makes absolutely no sense on the surface, and the other one will respond to the meaning underneath the words..and then ask what it means that we understand each other that way!) :-)

I didn't really get it at first but when I saw the first comment here it made perfect sense. I *think* I'd have understood it right away had I been there and heard you say it out loud and seen the yarn you were holding, because it does seem like the kind of thing I'd say!
