Well, the British ones anyway.
I went to The Combined Military Services Museum yesterday and amongst the suits of armour, the longswords as tall as I am,
and armour for the ahem
to try on, they had a Special Forces display.
This was about Peter and Prue Mason a husband and wife secret agent team and the tools of their trade. This included their clothing - double sided coats and jackets, suits with knives in the lapels, bent daggers in belts, blades in their shoes. There were honest to goodness cigerettes, pipes and lipsticks that were actually guns. Cameras disguised in handbags and buttons, the aforementioned garrotte hidden in a condom. There were cyanide capsules and blow pipes for posioned darts. Coins with antidotes impregnated. Shoes with coins and blades sandwiched between the insoles. There was an umbrella with a poison capsule in the tip.
All sorts of more mundane weapons of course. Peter Mason, it was suggested, was the inspiration for Mr Bond. I've never really watched the 007 movies and I tended to dismiss all the gadgetry as ridiculous film tomfoolery. Seems I was wrong!
