For a week. Sheringham is a cute North Norfolk Seaside town (village?) and its quiet and twee and friendly. We had no internet and no telly and no radio. (Well, we had the man downstairs' telly, let me tell you, Women's tennis heard with no context or cues sounds very disturbing.)

Apart from fearing murder on the ground floor, however, it was a restful week and I have returned slightly more serene than I left.

I am now drowning in cats, who seem to think that the way to prevent me abandoning them to the perils of Ray the Cat Feeder, is to never leave me unaccompanied for more than a second at a time. I escaped this afternoon and when I returned an pulled up outside, Bruce leapt into the car before I could get out and settle on my lap. Do y'think they missed me?

Oh my, Bruce must have been frantic with worry after you disappeared again!

Our old cat Duncan would not let us out of his sight for hours after we returned from a few days away from home. The current cats, Hector & Hamish, will sniff our clothing but otherwise don't seem to care we were away. It's no wonder I still miss Duncan. He, like Bruce, must have been one of the best cats ever.

My first night back, I was sitting on the sofa with my feet curled under me. I had Rufus sitting with his head on my shoulder, Albert was curled on my lap, Bruce was sitting on my feet and phoebe was on the arm of the sofa!

Bruce is particularly affectionate though and, although I love all my cats of course, he and Albert are the most loving and tactile. (which is lovely when I want to sit and cuddle and less endearing when I sit down to dry off after a bath or to perform a task and I am promptly Under a creature!

Awww that's so sweet. Of course they missed you. I was away for two nights and got a sulky response from Tricks who sulked in his makeshift nest of sleeping bags on the floor and bitched at me loudly every time I spoke to him.

Your week away from civilisation sounds glorious.

Mum's cat was put into a cattery for the week, and he most decidedly has not forgiven her yet. Mine are still in full on "GIVE ME ATTENTION NOW" mode.
